AHIMA-Approved ICD-10 Trainer Renewal Program

AHIMA-Approved ICD-10 Trainer Renewal Program

Please take the time to become familiarized with the benefits of participating in the AHIMA-Approved ICD-10 Trainer Renewal Program. ICD-10 Trainers currently participating in the renewal program have successfully completed the ICD-10 Trainer workshops offered by AHIMA, required coursework, and the end of learning assessment that led to the designation as an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer or AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM Trainer. The certificate represents the following:

  • Completion of a non-degree granting program designed to provide instruction and training towards acquiring specific knowledge;
  • The evaluation of such learning against intended outcomes (learning objectives); and
  • Demonstration of proficiency in the subject matter.

Annual participation in the AHIMA-approved ICD-10 Trainer Renewal Program, allows current ICD-10 Trainers the opportunity to continue providing prior-approved CEUs to students. This ensures students know that the ICD-10 curriculum provided by an ICD-10 Trainer is approved by AHIMA.

Renew your Certificate

The annual ICD-10 Trainer certificate renewal process begins annually on October 1 and is staged around the ICD-10-CM/PCS code updates released by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). For each renewal period, specific learning outcomes will be defined, educational program(s) provided, and a self-review designed to evaluate attainment of the intended learning outcomes. Successful completion of the renewal program extends ICD-10 Trainer status out for an additional year.

Trainers with a certificate which expires December 31, 2019, will need to renew their certificate between October 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019 to maintain their status as an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10 Trainer and extend the expiration date out to December 31, 2020. Here's what's included in the renewal kit:
